Americans for Prosperity-Texas Responds to Governor Abbott’s State of the State Address

Grassroots group highlights Governor’s leadership and encourages Governor, lawmakers to prioritize reforms that will remove barriers to opportunity 

AUSTIN, Texas – Following Governor Greg Abbott’s State of the State Address, Americans for Prosperity-Texas (AFP-TX) commended the governor for his continued support of opportunities that will reinvigorate our economy, prioritize public safety, enhance our immigration system, and ensure greater school choice options for all Texas families.

AFP-TX State Director Genevieve Collins released the following statement:

“Tonight, Gov. Abbott made it clear that he is standing up for a better Texas for generations to come with a robust list of legislative priorities. We applaud Gov. Abbott for his leadership and for prioritizing a strong economy through lasting property tax relief and education reforms that would ensure universal education savings accounts are an option for every Texas family. Additionally, we are encouraged to see his continued support for pre-trial reform and fortifying our immigration system through a secure border.

“AFP-TX has long been working to bring these policy solutions to the forefront by uplifting constituent’s voices to the legislature and now, those voices have been heard by the governor. We thank Gov. Abbott for supporting these issues and look forward to working with the legislature to drive these policies over the finish line.”


The grassroots group has identified the following issues as key priorities in the 88th Legislature and will continue to support these meaningful policy reforms to promote growth and opportunity for all Texans.

  1. Health Care Reform: Adopt a personal option that puts families in control of their health care.
  2. Educational Opportunity: Implement Education Savings Accounts so families are empowered to pursue the best education for their kids.
  3. Economic Opportunity: Lower taxes and rein in government spending so families can keep more of their hard-earned money.
  4. Housing Policy Reform: Eliminate burdensome red tape and bureaucracy that is stifling our housing market and embrace innovation to drive sustainable growth.
  5. Criminal Justice Reform: Ensure our criminal justice system prioritizes public safety while promoting real second chances, providing opportunities for those reentering society.
