ARLINGTON, VA – Americans for Prosperity applauds President Trump for signing legislation to reopen the government and put Congress back to work for the American people. This action marks an important step toward restoring focus on the policies that truly matter to families and businesses across the country.

We commend President Trump for taking decisive action to end this historic shutdown and get Washington working again. We also want to recognize the leadership of Senator John Thune and Speaker Mike Johnson, whose efforts were critical in reaching this resolution. While this is a positive development, we cannot ignore the critical time lost due to partisan brinksmanship by Democrats who traded pain and suffering for political leverage. Every day wasted was a missed opportunity to deliver real results for the American people.

Now is the time to act with urgency. Before the year is out, Congress still has the opportunity to make critical progress. Whether that’s lowering health care costs, unleashing American energy through permitting reform, or ensuring this longest shutdown is also the last by passing the Prevent Government Shutdowns Act – AFP stands ready to work with lawmakers to finish this year strong and prevent partisan politics from derailing a positive, pro-growth agenda.

Despite Democrat efforts to obstruct, it will be critical for lawmakers to build on the success of the Working Families Tax Cuts by continuing to deliver tangible policy results that make life more affordable.
