Olympia, Washington— Today, Americans for Prosperity (AFP) released the following statement in response to Governor Ferguson’s State of the State address.
AFP Western Region Director Heather Andrews said:
“Governor Ferguson spoke at length about Washington’s resilience and his optimism for the state’s future, but failed to offer solutions to the challenges Washingtonians are facing. Washington has an affordability crisis, yet the Governor doubled down on policies that will make it harder to work and live in Washington.
“We believe that income taxes are one of the most regressive forms of taxation, reducing incentives to work more and earn more money, and encouraging people to leave Washington for low-tax states. Proposals like the Governor’s millionaire’s tax will drive jobs and investments out of the state while doing little to lower costs for working families. Penalizing success will only harm Washington’s business climate.
“We are urging Governor Ferguson to focus on policies that expand housing, deliver meaningful tax relief, and put the people of Washington first.”
