Americans for Prosperity-Nevada state director outlines legislative agenda
State Director Ronald Najarro laid out Americans for Prosperity-Nevada’s legislative agenda for 2021 in an op-ed in the Nevada Independent.
At the top of the list, Najarro writes, is taking the steps necessary to rebound from the coronavirus pandemic.
The nature of Nevada’s economy meant COVID-19 hit us harder than most places. … We need to move quickly to make it easier for people to get back to work, lower tax burdens so families can keep more of their hard-earned money, cut red tape holding businesses back from thriving, and get our fiscal house in order.
Specifically, he calls on the legislature to ease the state’s burdensome occupational licensing laws, enhance legislative oversight of agency regulations by passing the Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny (REINS) Act, and legalize short-term rentals to give Nevadans the chance to earn more money and support their families.
The goal of each of these moves is to “make it easier, not harder, for would-be entrepreneurs to compete,” writes Najarro.
Along with reforms in education, health care, and taxes, this legislative session can help create “the kind of sustainable economic growth that would allow us to get the state’s fiscal house in order,” he concludes.
