JACKSON, MS – Following Governor Tate Reeves’ State of the State address, Americans for Prosperity – Mississippi (AFP-MS) is echoing the Governor’s commitment to education reform in the Magnolia State and calling on lawmakers to pass HB1449, the Mississippi Student Freedom Act.
AFP-MS State Director Starla Brown released the following statement:
“We thank Governor Reeves for highlighting the importance of education freedom. AFP-MS stands ready to work with the Governor and our Legislature to ensure students, not systems, are funded. We must empower parents to make the best education choices for their families.
“AFP-MS will leverage our grassroots base to urge lawmakers to pass the Mississippi Student Freedom Act as well as other important issues such as expanding the health care market by repealing Certificate of Need laws.”
Background
HB1449, the Mississippi Student Freedom Act, was introduced earlier this month by Representative Rob Roberson (District 43) to establish Magnolia Scholarship Accounts.
At the beginning of the month, AFP-MS hosted a Day at the Capitol with over 100 grassroots activists calling for transformation of the education landscape. In January, AFP-MS called for lawmakers to make education reform a priority in the 2024 Regular Session.
