Baton Rouge, LA—Today, Americans for Prosperity-Louisiana (AFP-LA) is applauding the House for unanimously passing SB 59, the Regulations from the Executive In Need of Scrutiny (REINS) Act, requiring legislative approval for rules with fiscal impact of $200,000 per year or $1 million over five years. AFP-LA looks forward to Governor Jeff Landry signing this into law as he indicated on a recent tele townhall for AFP grassroots supporters.
“I want to thank Scott and AFP for really helping and working with Senator Reese on this REINS Act […] I don’t get to vote on it, but I’m going to sign it because I think it’s important because many of you out there belong to small businesses, that work for corporations, and when you start to look at the amount of money that regulations pile on to the cost of the products and services that you provide, it is exorbitant and that money and cost is then passed on to the consumer.
“The idea here is to reduce the amount of regulations so that we balance the need of the government to regulate the playing field,” the Governor shared in the tele townhall.
AFP-LA State Director, Scott Simon, issued the following statement:
“We are thankful for State Senator Mike Reese and Governor Landry’s leadership, bringing forth transformative change to Louisiana by ensuring unelected agency bureaucrats cannot enforce costly regulations on our business owners—a decision that gained wide bipartisan support. Once signed by the Governor, we look forward to seeing the REINS Act in action, limiting regulations placed on businesses investing in our state and ensuring oversight by the people’s elected officials who can represent them with accountability and transparency.”
Background
This year, AFP is fighting to pass REINS-style legislation in nearly two dozen states by unleashing its grassroots army to inform citizens in key regions, deploying targeted digital ads and mail campaigns, and connecting constituents with their elected representatives to demand regulatory reform.
