FRANKFORT, KY – Yesterday, the Kentucky House and Senate voted to override Governor Andy Beshear’s veto of H.B. 6, a bill that coincides with the Regulations From The Executive In Need Of Scrutiny (REINS) Act, and S.B. 84, a bill that proposes changes to how Kentucky courts should review actions taken by state agencies. These monumental pieces of legislation ensure that any regulation with a significant economic impact cannot take effect without legislative approval and remove judicial deference to state agency interpretations of laws and regulations. Americans for Prosperity – Kentucky (AFP-KY) applauds the House and Senate for championing transparency and accountability in the rulemaking process.
AFP-KY State Director Heather LeMire released the following statement:
“H.B. 6 is a vital step to give Kentuckians a hand in the regulatory process and protect them from burdensome regulations made by unaccountable bureaucrats. Additionally, S.B. 84 will lead to more judicial control over how the commonwealth’s laws are applied by agencies, resulting in more adjustments to how agencies enforce regulations.
“Governor Beshear’s vetoes made it clear that he is more interested in protecting bureaucratic interests than policies that work for the people.
“We applaud lawmakers in the House and Senate for taking decisive action to cut through red tape and give hardworking Kentuckians and business owners the voice they deserve in the rulemaking process. AFP-KY is proud to see H.B. 6 and S.B. 84 become law, and we will continue the fight alongside lawmakers to ensure Kentuckians have a say in rules that impact their lives.”
