Topeka, KS—Americans for Prosperity-Kansas (AFP-KS) is applauding the state legislature for its work towards fiscal responsibility and delivering economic relief for taxpayers with the passage of SB 269. This legislation will usher in responsible, sustainable tax reform which allows excess revenue to reduce tax rates until the income tax rate reaches a low, flat rate of 4%.

This legislation allows extra taxpayer money to go back to families by reaching a lower rate for all Kansans and also requires 15% of general fund revenue to remain in the rainy-day fund, ensuring long-term stability for the Sunflower State.

AFP-KS State Director, Elizbeth Patton, made the following statement:

“Responsible, sustainable tax relief was prioritized this session and AFP-KS is thankful to policy champions in the House and Senate who negotiated action that will give our excess revenue back where it belongs: the people of Kansas. The final passage of SB 269 makes our state more competitive, paving the path for a strong economic future. We applaud the Members who kept their promise to lower the cost-of-living for all Kansans and urge the Governor to quickly sign this into law.”

The passage of SB 269 comes as AFP-KS is also advocating for tax relief on the federal level with the renewal of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act which is posed to raise the Kansas family’s federal tax bill by $2,228 if Congress allows it to expire.
