DES MOINES, IA – Following the end of the 2021 Iowa Legislative Session, Americans For Prosperity – Iowa (AFP-IA) State Director Drew Klein released the following statement on the major wins for Iowans that activists were able to achieve this year:
“Iowa has taken strides this year to solidify our state’s status as a pro-growth environment. The reforms we saw pass the legislature this year are good for Iowa families, good for the future of our state, and should serve as a premier example of how to secure our future through strong support of individuals.”
Some of the major wins for Iowans that passed this year include:
- Tax Reform: This reform will create $1 billion in tax savings over the next 8 years and is likely the most dynamic tax cut ever passed in Iowa.
- Education: This session saw an expansion in open enrollment, a positive overhaul of our charter school structure and big increases for our School Tuition Organizations and the Textbook and Tuition Tax Credit program with expanded eligibility for homeschool families.
- Broadband: In this bill, AFP-IA activists fought to eliminate costly regulation and open up opportunities to emerging and diverse technological infrastructure that will create a better market rather than codifying more cronyism.
AFP-IA was also pleased to see the legislature pump the breaks on a fuel mandate which would have raised prices for both consumers and retailers while restricting fuel options throughout the state.
