Americans for Prosperity Applauds Governor Scott’s Veto of H.727, Protecting Vermont’s Economic Competitiveness

Montpelier, Vermont — Today, Americans for Prosperity (AFP) released the following statement praising Governor Phil Scott’s veto of H.727. This legislation would have created one of the most restrictive, uncertain, and investment-deterring regulatory environments for data centers anywhere in the country.

AFP Deputy Northeast Region Director Rachel Burgin said:

“At a time when other states are aggressively competing for technology investment, jobs, and infrastructure, H.727 would send the opposite message that large-scale economic development in Vermont will face political discretion, endless permitting, costly mandates, and punitive fees. Data centers are not a threat. They are a proven driver of jobs, tax revenue, and long-term economic opportunity.

“Vermont must build on its natural advantages and compete for the jobs of the future, not regulate them out of existence. Today, AFP applauds Governor Scott for solidifying a commitment to advancing policies that promote economic growth, investment, and opportunity for Vermonters.”
