Americans for Prosperity Foundation Pressures Biden Administration for Answers on Abuse of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve

Jan 25, 2023 by AFP

Arlington, VA- Today, Americans for Prosperity Foundation (AFPF) filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Department of State for failing to produce records regarding the Biden Administration’s abuse of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, its alleged request that OPEC+ hold production cuts until after the midterm election, and the President’s plan for a potential export ban on crude oil or refined products.

The complaint follows the Biden Administration’s failure to respond to three FOIA requests submitted by AFPF on November 17, 2022.

“The Biden Administration’s failure to respond to AFPF’s FOIA requests reflects a troubling inattention to the vital importance of government transparency,” said AFPF policy counsel Ryan Mulvey. “These requests have been pending for months. The public deserves to know why the White House is refusing to advance policies that promote energy independence and embrace our country’s vast resources. AFPF is committed to exposing any politicization of America’s strategic energy reserves and holding the Biden Administration accountable for its failure to act in the best interest of Americans.”

AFPF previously uncovered how the Biden Administration canceled lease sales while misleading the American people on why it decided to hinder the development of domestic energy production.
