CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Americans for Prosperity-West Virginia (AFP-WV) released the following statement following passage of H.B. 2526 in the House of Delegates:
“We thank Governor Justice and principled lawmakers for keeping their longstanding promise to cut the personal income tax. This historic tax cut will return over half a billion dollars to the pockets of hard- working West Virginians, allowing folks to better invest in their lives and communities. We look forward to Governor Justice signing this legislation,” said State Director Jason Huffman.
H.B. 2526 is the compromise tax plan agreed to by the Governor, State Senate and House of Delegates. The compromise will return roughly $770 million to the people of West Virginia, with the largest portion of that being a $575 million through a 21% reduction in the personal income tax. The bill also puts triggers in place to eventually eliminate the state income tax if certain economic growth markers are met.
“Lawmakers have not only taken a bold, first step towards creating more jobs and economic growth but also established a framework for future tax cuts. We will continue to work with our policymakers to enact additional reforms to make the Mountain State a better place to live, work, and raise a family,” Huffman said.
