AFP: Veto Demonstrates Governor’s Belief in Top-down Government Control

“Our activists across the state stand ready to hold Governor Whitmer accountable”

Lansing, MI – Americans for Prosperity-Michigan today condemned Governor Whitmer’s veto of a bi-partisan, $1 billion personal income tax cut that would have returned dollars to every taxpaying Michigander. The group panned the move, saying the Governor was more interested in a short-term political gimmick than helping families and small businesses in the long term.

Annie Patnaude, state director for AFP-Michigan, issued the following statement:

“Once again, even as the state sits on billions of dollars in surplus revenue, Governor Whitmer has demonstrated she believes in top-down government control more than she believes in the people and job creators of Michigan.

“Michiganders need long-term tax relief to help them deal with the long-term struggles they face. Unfortunately, now that she’s up for reelection, Governor Whitmer seems more interested in short-term political gimmicks that will distract people from her record of supporting policies that have resulted in historic inflation and higher energy costs for families.

“Our activists across the state stand ready to hold Governor Whitmer accountable. We look forward to educating and engaging the public on this veto through a range of tactics, including mail, digital, volunteer-led phone banks and door-to-door efforts.”
