Richmond, VA – On Wednesday, the Virginia legislature passed a budget containing tax relief for Virginia families and small businesses, ending a months-long impasse.
AFP-VA State Director C.J. Sailor released the following statement:
“Some tax relief is better than no tax relief at all. Although we are disappointed this process was held up for months, we are glad lawmakers finally championed some relief and found success for Virginians.
“This is a victory for Virginians but so much more needs to be done in 2024. We are still taxing tips and paychecks – hurting Virginians living paycheck to paycheck through burdensome income taxes. North Carolina and Tennessee have eliminated their income taxes altogether, while West Virginia is on the fast track to follow in their footsteps. We need to overhaul Virginia’s tax code to help all Virginians rise, and we will continue to mobilize thousands of Virginian volunteers to bring this issue to the forefront in January.”
Background: Since 2014, Americans for Prosperity Virginia has been advocating for substantive tax reform.
