AFP-TN Delivers 2025 “Volunteer Way” Legislative Agenda

Dec 17, 2024 by AFP

Nashville, TN—Today, Americans for Prosperity-Tennessee (AFP-TN) officially launched its 2025 “Volunteer Way” legislative agenda ahead of the state legislative session beginning on January 14. This year’s agenda focuses on four key priorities aimed at reigniting the American Dream and protecting the Volunteer Way for future generations: universal school choice, regulatory reforms, banning state-wide property taxes, and increasing transparency in government.

AFP-TN’s legislative agenda focuses on the following areas:

Universal School Choice

  • Every child deserves access to a quality education that fits their unique needs, regardless of zip code or income bracket.
  • The school choice program proposed by Governor Bill Lee will give parents more control over the tax dollars they invest in their child’s education. AFP supports House / Senate Bill 1 as filed.

The REINS Act / Regulation Reform

  • The Regulations from the Executive in Need of Extra Scrutiny (REINS) delivers accountability by bringing an end to unchecked bureaucratic rule-making, ensuring the lawmaking is brought back to our elected officials. Cutting Regulations and stopping the unelected administrative state from running roughshod over taxpayers.

Banning State-Wide Property Taxes

  • AFP calls for a constitutional ban on state-wide property taxes to ensure the Tennessee government remains limited and accountable. This will be done with a Constitutional Amendment if 2/3 of the legislature support SJR001 / HJR 002 this year. It will be on the ballot for voters’ approval in 2026.

 Transparency in the House

  • Like the Senate, the House should record all votes. This transparency is crucial to restoring trust in our public institutions.

AFP-TN State Director Tori Venable released the following statement:

“After talking to thousands of Tennesseans at their door and on the phone, gaining nearly 500,000 voter contacts in the last year, we’ve heard what people want to see from their government: universal school choice, stopping government over-reach, cutting or eliminating taxes, and requiring more government transparency.

“We believe these policies can drive real change that will improve the lives of everyday Tennesseans now and protect the volunteer way for generations to come. We look forward to continuing our work with lawmakers during this session to deliver meaningful change and expand freedom and prosperity in Tennessee.”
