AFP-Texas Urges Property Tax Reforms in Second Special Legislative Session

Aug 15, 2025 by AFP

Austin, TX – Americans for Prosperity-Texas (AFP-TX) called on state lawmakers to prioritize property tax reform during the second 30-day special legislative session beginning today.

After Democrats boycotted the first special legislative session, AFP-TX called on all members of the legislature to put commonsense tax reform over political theater as they return to the capital.

AFP-TX Deputy State Director Raul Espinoza gave the following statement:

“Our elected leaders have a second chance to deliver critical tax relief for Texans during this special session. It’s past time to limit the out-of-control spending and tax increases by our local governments.

“AFP-TX will continue working under the dome while mobilizing communities across the state to stop the runaway local spending that’s pushing hardworking Texans out of their own homes.”

Background:

Since June 1, AFP-TX grassroots activists have knocked on over 20,000 doors in communities across the state to highlight how local governments overspend and pass on costs to homeowners, and empowered hundreds of taxpayers to testify at local governments’ budget hearings this summer.
