AFP Slams Gov. Mills’ Budget as Out-of-Touch

Augusta, Maine — Today, Americans for Prosperity (AFP) issued a strong rebuke of Governor Janet Mills as she signed into law a deeply flawed, tax-and-spend budget that threatens Maine’s economic future and further burdens working families.

AFP Northeast Region Director Ross Connolly said:

Today, by signing the supplemental budget, Governor Mills doubled down on the same failed approach we’ve seen across the Northeast: higher taxes, more spending, and short-term giveaways. This out-of-touch move will burden Mainers for years to come, making it harder for Maine to attract investment, grow jobs, and remain competitive in the region.

Mainers see right through the governor’s tactics to distract from higher taxes with gimmicks such as $300 ‘relief checks.’ AFP is disappointed in the governor and legislative majority for prioritizing optics over policies that would actually lower costs and expand opportunity. We will continue our efforts to advance policies that lower costs, expand opportunity, and put Maine on a path to long-term economic growth.”
