AFP-SC Urges State Senate to Restructure South Carolina’s Income Tax System by Passing H. 4216

Columbia, SC – Today, Americans for Prosperity–South Carolina (AFP-SC) reinforced the favorable report for H. 4216 from the Senate Finance Committee, and urged the Senate to flatten the tax code by passing this bill.

Setting a flat tax rate at 1.99% would not only give South Carolina the lowest flat state income tax in the country but also represent a significant step closer to AFP-SC’s goal of eliminating the state income tax outright.

AFP-SC State Director Matt Humm released the following statement:

“The current tax code could work so much better for South Carolinians. First, we need to flatten the tax code. Then we will work to eliminate it altogether. H. 4216 will create the lowest flat tax rate in the country, position our state optimally for economic investment, and get us closer to eliminating the state income tax entirely. Once this bill is passed, South Carolinians will feel the positive impact in their wallets and see it manifested in their local economies.

“The State Senate should carefully consider the benefits of this plan and vote yes on H. 4216.”
