WASHINGTON, DC—Today Americans for Prosperity (AFP) praised the U.S. Senate for using the Congressional Review Act to roll back Biden-era waivers granted to the state of California under the Clean Air Act that would effectively ban gas-powered cars. As one of the largest consumer markets in the country, California’s ban on gas-powered cars would significantly impact automakers and artificially restrict consumer choice nationwide.
AFP Chief Government Affairs Officer Brent Gardner issued the following statement after the Senate vote:
“After four years of ‘Bidenomics,’ the American people are understandably frustrated with bureaucrats attempting yet another back-door ban on gas-powered cars. The last-minute approval of the Clean Air Act waivers for California highlights the previous administration’s total disregard for the needs of American families, businesses, and the broader economy.
“Beyond the absurdity of making gas-powered cars illegal, proponents of the waivers fail to consider the immense strain such a policy would place on the electric grid.
“Americans for Prosperity thanks Senate Majority Leader Thune for bringing this bill to the floor and trusting the American people to choose for themselves the best vehicles to meet the needs of their families and businesses.”
