AFP-OK Celebrates REINS Passage

May 14, 2025 by AFP

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – Americans for Prosperity-Oklahoma (AFP-OK) called on Governor Kevin Stitt to sign the REINS (Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny) Act today to ensure accountability and accountability in the regulatory process, following the House’s incorporation of the Senate’s amendments to the bill.

Oklahoma was recently ranked as the 17th-most regulated state in the nation. AFP-OK has championed REINS as a fix for this high regulatory burden on hardworking Oklahomans. H.B. 2728 will ensure that any proposed regulation with a fiscal impact of over one million dollars receives extra scrutiny from elected representatives.

AFP-OK State Director John Tidwell gave the following statement:

“For too long, Oklahoma has been subject to regulations written by unelected bureaucrats that have massive implications for our economy and everyday lives – without any say from our elected leaders. REINS will change that.

“We’re grateful for House and Senate leadership for prioritizing this critical legislation to ensure transparency and accountability in the rulemaking process. AFP-OK urges Governor Stitt to sign REINS into law to ensure that regulations serve the people, not the government.”

Background:

This year, AFP is fighting to pass REINS-style legislation in nearly two dozen states by unleashing its grassroots army to inform citizens in key regions, deploying targeted digital ads and mail campaigns, and connecting constituents with their elected representatives in support of regulatory reform.
