AFP-OK Celebrates National School Choice Week at OKC School Fair

Jan 27, 2025 by AFP

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK — Americans for Prosperity-Oklahoma (AFP-OK) kicked off National School Choice Week last weekend at the 2025 Oklahoma City School Fair alongside school representatives to teach parents about the education options available for their children.

AFP-OK has long stood for the principle that families should be in charge of their children’s education, not systems. While Oklahoma now ranked fourth in the nation for overall education freedom, AFP-OK will continue working this year to expand students’ educational opportunities, including advocating for an increase to the Oklahoma Parental Choice Tax Credit.

John Tidwell, AFP-OK state director, gave the following statement:

“We’re immensely grateful this National School Choice Week to live in a state where families have the freedom and resources to give their children the best education possible.

“This week, we join with families across Oklahoma in calling on the state legislature to raise the cap on the state’s wildly successful education tax credit so that every family has the opportunity to participate.”

Background:

On Sunday, Governor Kevin Stitt also declared this week Oklahoma School Choice Week. AFP-OK was a major backer of the Oklahoma Parental Choice Tax Credit program, which went into effect in 2024 and helped over 30,000 families enroll their children in their dream schools.
