AFP-OK Applauds Food Freedom Bill’s Committee Passage

Apr 14, 2025 by AFP

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – Americans for Prosperity-Oklahoma (AFP-OK) thanked members of the Senate Health and Human Services Committee today for approving the Food Truck Freedom Act (HB1076) to cut back the burdensome permitting requirements that harm Oklahoma’s food vendors and small restaurants.

As a steadfast advocate for Oklahoma’s small businesses, AFP-OK is supporting the Food Truck Freedom Act so that food vendors need only one permit to operate anywhere in the state. Under the current system, vendors face a bevy of different licensure requirements and fees at every level of government, forcing them to spend time and money to jump through hoops instead of serving customers.

AFP-OK State Director John Tidwell gave the following statement:

“Restrictions on how and where food trucks can operate in Oklahoma is a textbook example of how bureaucratic red tape stifles innovation and hampers entrepreneurs. Food truck freedom is a win-win: more opportunities for small businesses to succeed and more good food options for Oklahomans.

“AFP-OK thanks Senator Christi Gillespie and Representative Derrick Hildebrant for authoring the bill to fix this key regulatory issue for small businesses and calls on the state legislature to send this to Governor Stitt’s desk so that more Oklahomans can pursue their American Dream.”

Background:

AFP-OK hosted a food truck lunch with lawmakers and staff in front of the state capitol building earlier this month to raise support and awareness for the bill.
