AFP-Ohio Urges Senators Brown and Portman to Advocate for a Permanent Solution for Dreamers to End Shutdown

Jan 23, 2019 by AFP

COLUMBUS, OH –  As lawmakers in Washington continue discussions this week to end the government shutdown, Americans for Prosperity-Ohio is urging Senators Brown and Portman to work together toward a narrow solution that provides a permanent solution for Dreamers – rather than the short-term protections currently proposed. The Senate is currently scheduled to vote on Thursday on the short-term proposal.

AFP-OH State Director Micah Derry issued the following statement:

“While our activists are encouraged that Congress is considering proposals that address Dreamers and provide border security, it is critical that Ohio’s delegation in Washington works towards a narrow package that pairs legal status for Dreamers with funds for border security. We encourage Senators Brown and Portman to advocate for Dreamers because without certainty, Dreamers cannot contribute fully to their families, communities, and the nation.”

Last week, Americans for Prosperity released a joint letter to Congress and the president cautioning on a temporary Dreamer fix. Read that letter here.

AFP-OH Deputy State Director Ezra Escudero previously penned an op-ed on Dreamers published in The Columbus Dispatch.
