New grassroots push calls on Ohio Senate to deliver meaningful tax reform for working families

Columbus, OH — Americans for Prosperity–Ohio (AFP-OH) today launched Save Our Salary, a new statewide campaign calling on the Ohio Senate to pass a 2.75% flat personal income tax, replacing the state’s outdated and burdensome progressive tax code. The campaign seeks to simplify Ohio’s tax system, boost take-home pay, and position the Buckeye State as a leader in pro-growth reform.

“Ohio families need relief—cut the tax, not the paycheck,” said AFP-OH State Director Donovan O’Neil. “By moving to a flat 2.75% income tax, Ohio can reward work, reduce government distortion in the tax code, and create a stronger foundation for growth.”

The flat tax proposal builds on over a decade of tax reform progress. Since 2013, Ohio has reduced its personal income tax from nine brackets to just two. A flat rate would mark a historic milestone—making the tax code fairer, simpler, and more competitive with neighboring states.

Backed by AFP research and national policy trends, the campaign emphasizes how adopting a flat tax can serve as a launchpad for long-term economic growth.

The initiative will mobilize volunteers, activists, and coalition partners in all 88 counties to urge state leaders to act. “Save Our Salary is more than a campaign—it’s a movement led by Ohioans who want to keep more of what they earn and chart a better path for our economy,” said O’Neil.

The campaign also calls for renewed fiscal discipline in Columbus, including transparency in budgeting and smart limits on government growth.

“Other states are flattening or eliminating income taxes. Ohio must act boldly to stay competitive in job creation, wage growth, and business investment,” O’Neil added.
