COLUMBUS, OH – With National School Choice Week underway, Americans for Prosperity–Ohio (AFP-Ohio) is celebrating how Ohio has become a national leader in school choice, with universal EdChoice now fully funded and accessible. Yesterday, Americans for Prosperity released a new report, Universal Educational Choice: A New Look at Funding Education, highlighting Ohio as one of only eight states in the nation that has made universal school choice truly available to families.
At the same time, lawmakers in Columbus are considering proposals, supported by both Republicans and Democrats, that would limit or roll back access to school vouchers and reintroduce barriers for families seeking educational opportunity. That contrast makes School Choice Week especially meaningful, as parents across Ohio are asking for more flexibility, more control, and better outcomes for their children.
AFP-OH State Director Donovan O’Neil released the following statement:
“School Choice Week is a reminder that education should be about empowering families, not protecting systems. Ohio has become a national leader by trusting parents and giving them real options. With a fully funded EdChoice voucher program, Ohio families have the ability to choose the school that best meets their children’s needs.
“While there is more work to be done to support families seeking access to non-charter, non-public options—and as legal challenges threaten to roll back educational freedom—our team is standing firm to defend and advance the progress Ohio has made over the past two decades. That is what education freedom looks like in action.
“At a time when some are pushing to put new limits on opportunity, Ohio is choosing to move forward and put students first.”
As Ohioans celebrate School Choice Week, AFP-Ohio is proud to recognize the hundreds of grassroots activists who helped deliver a defining victory for families, students, and the future of education in the Buckeye State.
