AFP-Nevada Statement on Passage of Key Legislation

May 23, 2025 by AFP

CARSON CITY, NV — Over the past few days of session, the Nevada General Assembly passed a handful of pieces of AFP-endorsed legislation. These bills will reduce red tape in the lives of Nevada families and entrepreneurs, address the state’s physician shortage, and remove regulatory burdens facing street food vendors.

  • SB 130 — Contractor Work Value Increase — This bill seeks to establish the monetary limit for a restricted contractor’s license, which must be $7,000, including labor and materials, or such a greater amount that the Board determines to be appropriate, while maintaining restrictions on work requiring permits and certain specialized trades. Although AFP-NV has concerns that the stipulations to receive and maintain a restricted license may be cumbersome, we applaud the broader effort to open more trade work to Nevadans that doesn’t require a full contractor license and to allow restricted license holders to transition to full contractors.
  • AB 197 — Strengthens First Amendment protections for Nevada donors.
  • SB 124 — Addresses Nevada’s physician shortage by streamlining state medical licensure requirements for international medical graduates, allowing them to practice and use their skills to serve our communities.
  • SB 295 — Removes state and local burdens on street food vendors and entrepreneurs across Nevada.

AFP-Nevada State Director Ronnie Najarro released the following statement:

Nevada’s lawmakers worked tirelessly this legislative session to pass bills to improve the lives of every Nevadan. AFP appreciates the work of Nevada’s policy champions in passing these key pieces of legislation.

“The passage of SB 124 will remove administrative barriers and allow talented doctors to help meet the needs of Nevada’s health care system. Street vendors across the state will now not be burdened by certain licensing requirements, allowing entrepreneurs to serve their communities. AB 197 will strengthen the free speech and First Amendment protections of Nevadans across the state.

“There is still work to be done — but these legislative victories do not go unnoticed, and AFP congratulates the legislature on passing these bills. We encourage lawmakers to take up Governor Lombardo’s education bill, The Nevada Accountability in Education Act, and empower families and parents to take control of their students’ education.”
