Dear Senators:
On behalf of more than forty-five thousand Americans for Prosperity-Nebraska activists, I am writing to express our strong opposition to LB873, a bill that would allow for the expansion of so-called Land Banks, risky big government ventures spearheaded by unaccountable bureaucrats, putting taxpayers’ valuable resources at risk.
Nebraskans expect their elected officials to be good stewards of their tax dollars. Good stewardship cannot be achieved through unaccountable boards and a process that reduces transparency, making it more difficult for taxpayers to keep track of how their money is being used.
LB873 would create an unequal playing field for private investors since these unaccountable bureaucracies would be allowed to purchase residential, commercial, retail, or industrial property. Unfairly competing with the private sector is not the role of government.
Americans for Prosperity-Nebraska strongly opposes LB873 to allow for Land Banks beyond the city of Omaha and urge the Legislature to take the appropriate steps in the future to eliminate this practice all together. We will include this vote in our legislative scorecard.
Sincerely,
Jessica Shelburn
