Raleigh, North Carolina – Yesterday, the United States Senate was unable to secure critical support to bring President Trump’s spending cuts package to the Senate floor. This package remains a modest first step toward reducing punishing government spending that has become all too commonplace in Washington.
In a disappointing move, Senator Richard Burr (R-NC), voted against moving President Trump’s Rescission package forward for a vote. Following this vote, AFP-NC state director, Chris McCoy, issued the following statement:
“Senator Burr should be swimming in shame for his refusal to allow the United States Senate to consider a modest spending reduction package. North Carolinians deserve principled leaders who will make the tough choice when it comes to spending, and Senator Burr’s lack of support for this effort – doesn’t hold water. We will continue to urge Senator Burr to stop protecting spend-friendly Washington policies and instead support future endeavors to cut spending.”
