AFP-MN Statement on State Budget Forecast

ST. PAUL, MN – Americans for Prosperity-Minnesota (AFP-MN) called on state lawmakers to address Minnesota’s looming budget deficit, after the Minnesota Management and Budget (MMB) unveiled the 2026 November Budget and Economic Forecast today that shows billions of dollars in overspending amid rampant defrauding of government programs.

Jake Coleman, AFP-MN state director, gave the following statement:

“Today’s budget forecast is a slap in the face to hardworking Minnesotans. Shortly after learning that they had a billion dollars stolen from them through the defrauding of public assistance programs, the government reminded us today that it will continue to spend billions more that it doesn’t have.

“The MMB report gets it backwards: slow economic growth is not the reason for the impending $2.96 billion budget deficit. The government spending $2.96 billion it doesn’t have is slowing economic growth.

“Last year, we made meaningful cuts to Walz’s reckless spending spree that ballooned the state budget and eliminated Minnesota’s historic budget surplus. AFP-MN will advocate for additional budget cuts in 2026 that restore fiscal restraint, starting with Walz’s fraud-ridden social programs.”
