AFP-MN Slams Gov. Walz Campaign Stops as MN Government Shutdown Approaches

May 31, 2025 by AFP

ST. PAUL, MN – Americans for Prosperity-Minnesota (AFP-MN) called out Governor Tim Walz for his cross-country campaign stops on Saturday as state government employees received 30-day layoff notices ahead of a potential government shutdown thanks to his party’s failure to finalize a budget.

Walz traveled to California and South Carolina this weekend – two key states in the Democratic Party primary process – instead of helping his own state avert a catastrophic budget crisis. Walz’s events this weekend are the latest in a long series of town hall events in red states, all of which soundly rejected his radical progressive agenda in November.

Jake Coleman, AFP-MN state director, gave the following statement:

“Tim Walz has abandoned his home state of Minnesota. While Walz gives stump speeches in far-away states this weekend to campaign for his next job, Minnesota state government workers may lose their jobs thanks to his party’s poor governance.

“Walz will be remembered for giving Minnesota a historic budget deficit, crumbling education system, skyrocketing crime, and rampant financial fraud. To save what little dignity he has left, Walz should come back to avert this preventable catastrophe.”
