AFP-Missouri Calls for End of State Income Tax in New Campaign
JEFFERSON CITY, MO – Americans for Prosperity-Missouri (AFP-MO) today called on state lawmakers to vote to gradually phase out state income taxes in the next legislative session beginning in January and announced a statewide advocacy campaign for it as part of its bold 2025 legislative agenda.
The campaign will help bolster support for real tax reform, including reforms found in HJR1/HB100 and its counterparts in the Senate. This bill will transform Missouri into one of the most competitive states in the nation. If passed, Missouri will move to a low, flat income tax rate, lower and phase out income taxes over time, and impose spending limits on the legislature.
AFP-MO will utilize digital ads, petitions, mailers, and door-to-door advocacy to make sure Missouri workers have “No MO Taxes.”
AFP-MO State Director Gary Hollis gave the following statement:
“During this past election cycle, the voters of Missouri gave Governor-Elect Kehoe a clear mandate with over 59% of the vote. Part of his campaign was a promise to find a way to eliminate the state income tax in Missouri.
“This message resonated with Missouri’s families who are sick of seeing their hard-earned money sent to Jefferson City. It’s past time for Missouri to join the ranks of states that have moved to a flat tax and are gradually phasing out their state income taxes that are a burden to workers and families.
“We look forward to working with our allies in the state legislature to restore fiscal responsibility to Jefferson City and put money back into the pockets of Missouri families where it belongs. We call on every member of the State Legislature to support reforms similar to those found in HJR1/HB100.”
AFP-MO will continue to announce additional bills it supports in the coming weeks and months and is eager to work with Governor-Elect Kehoe and our State Legislature on making Missouri a more free and prosperous state for families.
