Arlington, VA – Moments after the House passed the so-called Inflation Reduction Act, Americans for Prosperity launched a significant six-figure digital ad campaign to hold lawmakers accountable. The ads are part of AFP’s larger “True Cost of Washington” campaign, which highlights the harm caused by Washington’s misguided policies and shows Americans a better path to making life more affordable.
The ads step through key components of the bill, specifically the $770 billion of new taxes and spending, and close with a message to each lawmaker that Americans can’t afford more reckless spending, taxes, and empty promises. They also highlight the numerous expert analyses that find the bill won’t have a meaningful impact on inflation.

AFP Vice President of Government Affairs Akash Chougule issued the following statement on the campaign:
“Every one of the lawmakers who voted for this bill should have to explain how massive tax hikes, partisan giveaways, and an army of IRS agents will do anything to fight inflation – aside from pushing us deeper into a recession.
“Americans everywhere are being forced to dig deep into their savings just to tread water and Washington wants to squeeze them for every last cent. How else do you explain higher taxes on energy, higher taxes on businesses, lower wages for workers, and an unprecedented expansion of the IRS into the lives of middle-class Americans?
“The lawmakers featured in these ads think they can use struggling Americans as cover to ram through whatever’s on their partisan wish list, call it ‘inflation reduction’, and no one will know the difference. AFP is going to make sure their constituents understand what was in this legislation and know exactly who to hold accountable for it.”
The campaign will target Senators Manchin, Kelly, Sinema, Hassan, Cortez-Masto, and Warnock, and House Members Slotkin, Cuellar, Axne, Gonzalez, Luria, Spanberger, Lee, Mrvan, O’Halleran, Malinowski, Kildee, and Cartwright. Instead of continuing the same tax-and-spend approach that Americans have seen fail time after time, AFP is advocating a positive alternative policy agenda: Empowering People, Emerging Stronger.
