Biden’s Gas-Powered Car Ban ‘Brings Government Overreach to New Level’

Arlington, VA – Americans for Prosperity has launched a new campaign calling on Senators in the critical states of Montana, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Wisconsin, and Michigan to stop Joe Biden’s war on gas-powered cars.

Bidenomics has left Americans struggling to afford some of the costliest regulatory mandates and highest energy prices in decades. Now, instead of acting to improve energy security or lower costs, the Biden Administration is taking new steps to punish Americans with higher prices and fewer choices. The Biden EPA’s recent emissions rule would require up to two-thirds of new cars and trucks sold in the U.S. to be electric vehicles (EVs) by 2032. This rule would force many Americans to buy an electric car even though only 9% of Americans are seriously considering buying an electric vehicle and 3 out of 4 Americans oppose regulations that would ban new gasoline, diesel, and hybrid vehicles.

AFP Vice President of Government Affairs Akash Chougule said:

“Joe Biden’s plan to tell Americans what kind of car or truck they can drive brings government overreach to a whole new level. This extreme regulatory overreach is not about a cleaner environment. It’s about controlling what Americans can buy and what businesses can make. It’s hard to imagine a more destructive and harmful approach to energy policy. We don’t need the federal government telling us what we’re allowed to drive. We need a plan that works for everyone and keeps our freedom to choose our cars. Americans are counting on Congress to put a stop to this overreaching regulation and protect the freedoms of the American people. Every one of these Senators should be explaining to voters exactly what they’re doing stop these reckless policies.”

The Biden Administration’s mandate comes at a time when Americans can least afford higher costs. Families are already paying higher prices for vehicles and higher interest rates for auto loans due to the failures of Bidenomics, and the average household is paying $11,400 more per year just to maintain the same quality of life as when Biden took office. The Biden mandate also punishes workers and businesses. GMFord, and Stellantis have already laid off thousands of American workers as a result of decisions to end production of certain gas-powered vehicles.

U.S. Sens. Pete Ricketts (R-NE) and Dan Sullivan (R-AK) have announced Congressional Review Act legislation aimed at blocking this rule, and AFP is urging Congress to put a stop to this extreme government overreach. AFP’s ads will target Sens. Jon Tester (D-MT), Jacky Rosen (D-NV), Bob Casey (D-PA), Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), and Debbie Stabenow (D-MI).
