AFP-KY Urges Legislature to Overturn Gov. Beshear’s Veto on REINS Bill

Frankfort, KY – Yesterday, Governor Beshear vetoed House Bill 6, legislation that would limit the authority of state agencies to issue regulations. Americans for Prosperity-Kentucky (AFP-KY) urges the legislature to overturn the governor’s veto on this bill.

Similar to the REINS (Regulations from the Executive in Need of Scrutiny) Act in Congress, Kentucky H.B. 6 would require legislative action on any rule or regulation that has a major economic impact before it can take effect.

AFP-KY State Director Heather LeMire released the following statement:

“Gov. Beshear’s veto message makes it clear that he is out of touch with reality and will do anything to avoid accountability. The legislature grants the governor the power to administrative regulation in chapter 13 A of the Kentucky Revised Statute. His claim that it is unconstitutional for the legislature to amend that power shows his fundamental lack of understanding of good governance.

“Kentucky taxpayers elect legislators, not bureaucrats, which is why those representatives should have the final say in any rule that will affect their lives.  AFP-KY is encouraged by the legislation passed through the House and Senate earlier this session, and we will continue to fight for legislative oversight in reducing unnecessary or inefficient laws.”

Background:

This year, AFP is fighting to pass REINS-style legislation in nearly two dozen states by unleashing its grassroots army to inform citizens in key regions, deploying targeted digital ads and mail campaigns, and connecting constituents with their elected representatives to demand regulatory reform.
