ATLANTA, GA – Today, the Atlanta House of Representatives passed House Bill 987 with bipartisan support. The bill would allow companies and individuals to contribute to portable benefit accounts for self-employed workers. These worker-owned accounts would be managed by a bank or third-party provider and would support benefits like health insurance premiums, paid time off, and retirement savings.

Americans for Prosperity-Georgia State Directory Tony West released the following statement:

“We are thrilled that a bipartisan majority of state representatives recognize the value of voluntary portable benefits. More than one million Georgians willingly choose flexible work, and it’s past time for Georgia laws to support this growing sector of the economy. State laws should empower Georgians to choose the work that best fits their families’ needs, and this bill will do just that.”
