Arlington, VA – Following President Trump’s call today for each cabinet member to cut 5 percent of budgets at their respective departments by identifying wasteful spending, Americans for Prosperity commended the president for his leadership on one of Washington’s most important issues.
Americans for Prosperity Chief Government Affairs Officer Brent Gardner issued the following statement:
“Americans expect their government officials to be good stewards of their hard-earned tax dollars, and President Trump’s call today for his administration to identify and cut wasteful government spending is a key first step that’s been long overdue. Reckless and wasteful spending has been a bipartisan problem that requires a bipartisan solution. Members of both parties should take this opportunity now to follow the president’s lead and start making good on decades of empty promises to restore fiscal responsibility.”
In May, AFP released a report detailing more than $45 billion in excessive spending increases that the White House and Congress should prioritize eliminating.
