Augusta, Maine — Americans for Prosperity (AFP) applauds the House and Senate for passing L.D 1890, an amendment that will increase the Certificate of Need (CON) threshold for new healthcare facilities to $7.5 million. Current law requires a Certificate of Need for any facility that incurs a capital expenditure of more than $3 million.
AFP Northeast Region Director Ross Connolly said:
“Today is a great day for healthcare expansion and innovation in the state of Maine. Increasing the Certificate of Need threshold for new healthcare facilities will enable greater investment and innovation, lower prices, and provide quicker care for the Pine Tree State.
“For decades, presidents from both sides of the aisle have urged these laws to be repealed. While more work can be done, AFP applauds the Maine Legislature for taking a step in the right direction—cutting through burdensome red tape that has long stood in the way of healthcare providers delivering quality care to Mainers. The passage of this legislation marks a positive step toward increasing healthcare access and affordability across the state.”
