AFP Cheers Passage of First Rescission Package through the U.S. House
WASHINGTON, DC —Today, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to cancel $9.4 billion in discretionary spending as requested in President Trump’s first rescission package. Americans for Prosperity (AFP) issued a Key Vote Alert supporting House passage and cheered the move to continue reining in federal spending and reducing government waste.
AFP Chief Government Affairs Officer Brent Gardner issued the following statement after the vote:
“House approval of President Trump’s rescission package is an important first step toward changing the culture of federal spending in Washington. AFP hopes the Senate will quickly do the same and that the President will send more rescission packages with even greater savings to Congress.
“This is a ‘both, and’ moment for Congress. House Republicans have shown that it’s possible to make sensible spending cuts, to restore legislative accountability, and to protect Americans from the largest tax hike in history. We look forward to supporting future packages, as well as advocating for reforms that empower Congress to review and update budget priorities regularly, reduce the deficit, and renew the spirit of fiscal responsibility and taxpayer stewardship in Washington. The Senate should quickly echo this House action so cost savings are permanently realized for the taxpayers.”
