PHOENIX, AZ – Americans for Prosperity–Arizona (AFP–AZ) today launched a new digital campaign to hold Senator Mark Kelly accountable for refusing to vote in favor of legislation that would reopen the government and fully fund the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Arizona’s Democratic senators, Mark Kelly and Ruben Gallego, are playing politics with national security by holding critical government funding hostage.
Stephen Shadegg, AFP–AZ State Director, issued the following statement:
“Arizona deserves better than politicians who use our national security as a bargaining chip. We need leaders in Washington who understand that when the Department of Homeland Security goes dark, when TSA agents today receive their first $0 paycheck, Americans are put in danger. Mark Kelly and Ruben Gallego have made their choice. They’ve chosen obstruction over protection, and every Arizonan should know exactly who is responsible.
“The cartels, traffickers, and other bad actors who seek to exploit our weakened defenses are not waiting for a deal to get done. The danger is real, it is growing, and these senators are choosing to look the other way. Mark Kelly and Ruben Gallego have failed Arizona, and they are putting our citizens, communities, and our nation at risk.”
AFP is calling for an immediate end to the ongoing partial government shutdown amid rising security concerns across the United States and abroad, warning that continued dysfunction in Washington could prove catastrophic at a time when American families, businesses, and communities are relying on their government to keep them safe.
