AFP-Arizona Calls Out Hobbs’ State of the State, Sets Clear Legislative Priorities

Phoenix, AZ — Americans for Prosperity Arizona (AFP-AZ) released the following statement in response to Governor Katie Hobbs’ State of the State Address while outlining its legislative priorities for the 2026–2027 term.

AFP-AZ State Director Stephen Shadegg said:

“Once again, Katie Hobbs offered plenty of talk but no real solutions for the challenges facing Arizonans. From housing affordability to regulatory overreach, Arizonans are not looking for another speech, they are looking for leadership that delivers results and takes responsibility.

“Families are struggling with rising housing costs, a growing regulatory burden, and an economy that too often works for insiders instead of small businesses and working people. Yet time and again, the governor has stood in the way of meaningful reforms. Her administration has repeatedly vetoed commonsense legislation that would increase transparency, improve affordability, and restore accountability.

“Leadership is about solving problems, not blocking solutions. Arizona does not need more rhetoric. It needs a governor who is ready to turn words into action.”

As lawmakers return to the Capitol this week, AFP-AZ is focused on advancing a reform agenda that contrasts sharply with Hobbs’ record of vetoes and obstruction. AFP-AZ’s priorities for the 2026–2027 legislative term include:

  • REINS Act: Strengthening legislative oversight of major regulatory actions to ensure unelected bureaucrats are accountable for rules that significantly impact Arizonans.
  • Housing Reforms: Advancing policies that increase housing supply, reduce unnecessary barriers, and make housing more affordable for families across the state.
  • Energy Reforms: Supporting innovation and diversification in energy production, including small modular nuclear reactors, to ensure reliable and affordable power.
  • Regulatory Dark Matter: Increasing transparency by requiring agencies to publicly disclose and clearly label all interpretations, directives, and rules so Arizonans can see which actions carry the force of law.
  • Portable Benefits: Expanding worker flexibility and security through modern benefit structures that reflect today’s workforce and economy.
