WASHINGTON, DC – Americans for Prosperity (AFP) today commended the administration’s announcement of its first step to move control out of the Department of Education and begin the long process of dismantling the one-size-fits-all Washington-approach to our education system.
Brent Gardner, AFP Chief Government Affairs Officer, issued the following statement:
“Americans for Prosperity commends the administration for taking this step to improve our education system by consolidating programs to other agencies in order to reduce the influence of the Department of Education. Parents, local communities, and teachers know best what their students need, not government bureaucrats. For decades, Washington has imposed one-size-fits-all mandates that stifle innovation and limit choice. Starting to unwind Washington’s bureaucracy will help create a smarter, more responsive system that puts families in the driver’s seat and ensures resources go directly to students and classrooms, rather than getting stuck in government red tape.”
What Continuing on this Path Could Mean for the Future of Education
Empowering Families and Local Communities
Closing the Department of Education is about returning decision-making to those closest to students. Parents, educators, and communities—not federal officials—should be the key decision–makers when comes to education policy.
A Smarter, More Effective System
Federal involvement has created a one-size-fits-all system that falls short for too many families. Local control fosters innovation, flexibility, and accountability. Streamlining governance ensures resources go directly to students and teachers, not wasted in bureaucratic inefficiencies.
Americans for Prosperity is dedicated to advancing policies that expand freedom and opportunity for all Americans. We believe education decisions are best made by families and local communities—not Washington bureaucrats.
