Key Vote Alert Issued on Senate Bill S.1796
Trenton, NJ – Today, Americans for Prosperity (AFP) and Jersey 1st issued a key vote alert urging legislators to oppose Senate Bill S.1796, a measure that threatens the privacy and freedom of homeschooling families and increases regulations that restrict New Jersey students from receiving the education that best serves their needs.
In the alert sent to all Senate members ahead of the committee hearing on Thursday, the grassroots organizations said, “unnecessary regulation risks exposing private family decisions and could pave the way for further restrictions on homeschooling.”
AFP Northeast Regional Director Ross Connolly and Jersey 1st Grassroots and Advocacy Director Zachery Dora released the following statement:
“New Jersey students deserve access to the education that best serves them, and families should be empowered to make those decisions. This bill threatens the freedoms families rely on in order to help their children reach their full potential. AFP and Jersey 1st strongly oppose this bill and urge the legislature to stand with families by voting ‘no.’ It’s imperative that lawmakers prioritize education freedom over unnecessary regulation. We remain committed to working with communities and legislators to empower families with the freedom to determine their educational path to success–without added roadblocks of government red tape.”
AFP outlines several concerns with the bill and notes why S.1796 is a problem:
AFP and Jersey 1st are dedicated to protecting the freedoms of Americans, advancing policies that promote prosperity, and opposing measures that limit freedom and impose burdensome regulations that prohibit every American from achieving their version of the American Dream.
