AFP and Jersey 1st Defend Homeschool Freedom Against Overreach During National School Choice Week

Trenton, NJ — With National School Choice Week underway, Americans for Prosperity (AFP) celebrates school choice to ensure parents can customize their students’ educational options that best suit their needs.

In the Garden State, homeschooling empowers thousands of families to deliver personalized, values-driven education. New Jersey’s light-touch regulations have protected this core parental right, allowing families to foster curiosity and unique potential without undue government interference. Yet, this freedom faces growing threats from overregulation.

AFP Northeast Region Director Ross Connolly and Jersey 1st President and Founder Rosemary Becchi released the following joint statement:

“A one-size-fits-all approach does not work for families when it comes to education. National School Choice Week is about empowering parents with the freedom to choose learning environments that help their child discover, develop, and deploy their unique passions and talents.

“The homeschooling community in New Jersey thrives because of the state’s current oversight. However, this freedom is facing threats of bureaucratic regulation that could place unnecessary barriers between students and their education.

“New Jersey must continue to protect educational freedom and not undermine it with regulations that limit opportunity and parental choice. We urge lawmakers to support educational freedom and secure homeschool protections as bedrock liberties.”

Last year, AFP and Jersey 1st launched Garden State Guardians, a campaign to hold lawmakers accountable and secure homeschool protections as bedrock liberties.
