AFP-Alabama Celebrates House Passage of SB167

MONTGOMERY, AL – Americans for Prosperity-Alabama (AFP-AL) celebrated SB167 unanimously passing the Alabama House today, bringing the state one step closer to ending judicial deference.

In 2024, the U.S. Supreme Court decision Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo overturned the 40-year old Chevron doctrine that forced federal courts to defer to a federal agencies’ interpretation of a rule if the rule was ambiguous. SB167 would overturn the Chevron doctrine at the state level and require state courts to interpret rules without bias in favor of a state agency.

AFP-AL State Director Adam Thompson released the following statement:

“We are grateful to Sen. Arthur Orr and Rep. Bryan Brinyark, for their leadership in getting this bill passed and to all legislators who supported this bill. We urge Governor Ivey to quickly sign this bill into law.

“Today’s success makes us more committed than ever to working to rein in the authority of unelected bureaucrats and the burdensome regulations that make life more difficult for Alabamians.”
