AFP-AL Applauds Committee Passage of Judicial Deference Bill SB 167

MONTGOMERY, AL – Americans for Prosperity-Alabama applauds the Alabama Senate Finance & Taxation General Fund Committee for voting to move the judicial deference bill, SB167 by Senator Arthur Orr, out of committee. The 2024 U.S. Supreme Court decision Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo ended the Chevron doctrine at the federal level, and SB167 would end judicial deference at the state level. The bill would require Alabama Courts to interpret statues and regulations without bias in favor of any agencies. It will now be taken up by the full Senate and, if passed there, sent to the House for final passage.

This legislation will help restore judicial impartiality and ensure that the opinions of state bureaucrats do not take precedence over what the law dictates. We look forward to the bill moving through the full Senate and the House and for Alabama to soon join the other states who have passed similar legislation.”
