Government at all levels is too expensive. Reckless government spending is problematic because every dollar government spends is removed from the productive private economy. Moreover, excessive debt and high taxes slow economic growth and put future generations at risk. A government of the people, by the people, and for the people owes it to her citizens to spend wisely, remembering that government dollars are actually citizen dollars. Controlling government spending is key to unleashing the private sector’s ability to lift people from poverty, strengthen the middle class, and create prosperity and well-being.
