ARLINGTON, VA—Today, Americans for Prosperity-Louisiana (AFP-LA) State Director Scott Simon published an op-ed in The Advocate defending the record of Speaker Mike Johnson. As a former colleague of Johnson’s in Louisiana’s State Legislature, Simon said that Johnson is the exact kind of principled leader that our country needs.
AFP-LA State Director Scott Simon wrote:
“[Speaker Johnson’s] knowledge of constitutional law is second to none, though his greatest attribute is in his ability to hold steadfast to his principles and beliefs while negotiating and debating respectfully with those who disagree with him. The hope is that a strong speaker can bring together a fractious House and end the cycle of budgeting by crisis that has contributed mightily to this wreck of an appropriations process.
“In his four terms, Johnson has put these leadership qualities to the test with his positions on the judiciary and armed services committees, chairing the Republican Study Committee – the largest caucus of conservatives in the House – as well as serving as vice chairman of the House Republican Conference and deputy whip for House Republicans.
“Americans for Prosperity has held a longstanding relationship with Johnson, and we’re looking forward to working with him in a brand-new capacity as there’s much to get done to repair our economy and reignite the American dream.”
Majority Leader Steve Scalise added:
“He is an honest, hardworking and principled conservative, and has already done a fantastic job serving. With Speaker Johnson and myself in the two top leadership positions for the House of Representatives, issues important to American energy production and lower inflation for families can receive even more national attention.”
