AFP-SC Unveils “South Carolina Freedom Initiative” 2025 Legislative Agenda

COLUMBIA, SC—Americans for Prosperity – South Carolina (AFP-SC), the state’s most recognizable grassroots mobilizer, is unveiling a new legislative agenda for 2025 containing a policy plan over the next several years that aims to make the Palmetto State the freest in the south.

Southern states from West Virginia to Florida to Texas are accelerating growth and opportunity by enacting universal education freedom, reining in out-of-control regulations, and taking steps to flatten the tax code. AFP-SC says that there is much work to be done to improve the state’s freedom index measure of education, personal liberty, economic freedom, taxes, and scope of government.

Beginning in the next legislative session, the grassroots organization will begin working towards reforms to the state’s education system, tax code, and the size and scope of government. The group believes enacting these reforms will transform South Carolina, increase its competitiveness with neighboring southern states, and unlock opportunity for all its residents.

To accomplish that vision, AFP-SC’s 2025 legislative agenda, the South Carolina Freedom Initiative, can be read by clicking HERE.

AFP-SC State Director, Matt Humm, made the following statement:

“Our families are being held back by government barriers, leading to less opportunity, higher costs, and tighter family budgets.  We’re eager to take up the great challenge of removing these barriers to open up the free market and make South Carolina a bastion of freedom and prosperity for all. Transforming South Carolina into the freest and most prosperous state in the south won’t happen overnight, but the South Carolina Freedom Initiative and the work our talented and accomplished team will be initiating in the upcoming legislative session is a strong first step towards unlocking our future.”

Over the next 10 years, AFP-SC strives to:

  • Flatten the tax code and then work towards the full elimination of the state income tax. Doing so will not only allow South Carolina families to keep what they earn, but also make our state competitive with southern neighbors such as Florida and Tennessee, which have no income tax, as well as North Carolina and Georgia, each with a lower income tax burden than the Palmetto State.
  • Empower every parent and student to choose the education system and schooling that works best for their individual goals and needs. South Carolina can achieve this by joining the 12 states who’ve already passed universal school choice and customization.
  • Get government out of the way to increase competition and reduce cost burdens put on consumers. Bureaucratic boards and rules are unaccountable to citizens and often lead to unnecessary licensure requirements that result in increased costs for consumers and prevent individuals from being able to self-actualize in their careers. We’ll work hard to roll back these harmful regulations and allow the free market to drive down prices and grow jobs and opportunity within our communities.
  • Unleash the free market in health care and end surprise billing.

Further, AFP-SC will identify, mobilize, and train more grassroots activists than ever before while also working with policy champions and coalition partners in the Statehouse to move critical legislation across the finish line.
