Award to State Senator Patricia Rucker on Thursday, February 13. The award will be given out at AFP-WV’s Legislative Reception set to take place from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the organization’s new Charleston headquarters (1001 Virginia Street, E, Suite 200, Charleston, WV 25301). Those who wish to attend can register here.
“Our policy champions are leaders who are either at the forefront or behind the scenes driving progress toward transformational policy wins. State Senator Patricia Rucker led the way on the educational freedom movement that is sweeping the country. Every parent that has been able to find the education that fits their child’s unique needs owes Senator Rucker a debt of gratitude,” said AFP-WV State Director Jason Huffman.
The AFP-WV Freedom Award is given to those who help expand freedom and opportunity for all West Virginians by championing policy crucial to helping the Mountain State reach her full potential. Since 2021, Senator Rucker has fought relentlessly for education opportunities that works best for every child, regardless of their income level or their zip code.
“In 2026, West Virginia will expand the Hope Scholarship program to all students. This marks a momentous point in state’s education history. Without the leadership from Senator Rucker, this crucial reform would not have happened,” said AFP-WV Deputy State Director Crescent Gallagher.
