AFP to House Republicans: “Don’t Raise Taxes to Keep the Green New Scam”

May 8, 2025 by AFP

Washington, DC—In response to the news that House Republicans are considering a plan to raise taxes on small business owners and job creators, AFP Chief Government Affairs Officer Brent Gardner issued the following statement:

“It is unbelievable that House Republicans are seriously considering raising taxes on anyone, and at the same time refusing to eliminate the trillions of dollars in waste from Joe Biden’s Green New Scam. Voters delivered control of Congress and the White House to Republicans precisely because they trusted them to protect prosperity and end the cost-of-living crisis.

“Raising taxes on any American should be completely off the table. Doing it to protect Green New Scam slush funds is a gut punch to Americans who overwhelmingly and unequivocally oppose raising taxes. This is not what Americans voted for last November. We sincerely hope that leadership rethinks its plan to underwrite Democrat priorities with higher taxes.”

The proposals also come during National Small Business Week, a week where AFP has been highlighting and celebrating the positive impact of the Tax Cuts & Jobs Act on job creators across the country. The last thing these small business owners need – or expect – is for the Republican-controlled Congress to increase their taxes.
